How We Review AI Girlfriend Apps

This page explains where the facts in our reviews come from, how we score apps, and what our ratings can and cannot tell you.

1. Where the facts come from

Prices, plan names, token and credit costs, limits and cancellation rules come from each app's own pages: pricing and plan pages, help-center articles and terms of service. Privacy statements come from the app's privacy policy, quoted and dated in our privacy scorecard. Screenshots on a review show the product itself. Every review says what it is based on and when its facts were last checked. If we could not confirm something, we leave it out or say that it is unconfirmed.

2. We score every app on the same seven criteria

To keep reviews comparable, we judge each app on the same dimensions and weigh them into an overall rating:

  • Conversation quality: how natural, coherent and engaging the chat is designed to be.
  • Memory & consistency: what the app remembers about you and how it handles long chats.
  • Realism & personality: depth of characters and how much you can shape them.
  • Customization: control over appearance, personality, voice and backstory.
  • Multimedia: images, voice messages, calls and video where offered, and what they cost.
  • Value for money: the realistic monthly cost, including tokens and credits on top of the plan.
  • Privacy & safety: data handling, training on chats, deletion, content controls and age checks.

Ratings are editorial judgements on these criteria, not lab measurements. Cost, cancellation and refund terms, privacy and safety come from documents we have read and dated. Conversation quality, memory and realism are judged from what the app documents and shows publicly; where we have not used a feature ourselves, the review says so instead of describing an experience we did not have. A rating can therefore separate apps that are clearly better or worse on paper, but small differences (4.3 against 4.5) are a judgement, not a measured gap.

3. Real costs, not sticker prices

Many apps sell a cheap plan and charge tokens or credits for images, voice and video. We explain the token system of each app and what a realistic month costs at the listed prices. Our AI girlfriend pricing guide puts the apps side by side.

4. Privacy and safety

Because AI companions involve intimate conversations, we read each app's privacy policy and terms, note who operates the app and where, and flag vague data practices, training on chats, weak deletion options and missing age checks.

5. Updates

Apps change prices and features often. Every review shows its last-updated date, and we re-check prices and policies of the ranked apps regularly. When an app changes, its review and rating change with it.

Our limitations

We are not the app developers, so we cannot see their servers or internal data flows. Prices can differ by country and currency, and AI behaviour varies between sessions and models. Where our own screenshots or tests exist, the review shows them with their date; everything else is marked by its source. Spotted something out of date? Get in touch and we will check it.
