Quick answer: how much does an AI girlfriend cost?
On a monthly plan, the entry price of the AI girlfriend apps below runs from $7.99 to $19.99 a month (Kupid.ai and Sweetdream.ai sell weekly and longer plans instead). Prepaying for a year cuts the monthly equivalent to between $2.49 and about $10 on most of them. Top tiers cost more: Kupid.ai's Ultra plan is €24.99 a week, about €108 a month. On top of the plan, most apps sell tokens or credits for images, voice and video, and that is where the bill grows.

Prices change often, depend on your region and are sometimes shown only after sign-up, so each row says where the figure comes from and when it was checked.

App Store prices can differ from web prices; Nomi's web prices need a login, so we list the store ones. CNBC reported in 2025 that Character.AI earns mainly from ads and a $10 monthly subscription, which matches its $9.99 Character.AI+ item.
The three ways you pay: free tiers, plans and tokens
Almost every app combines the same three layers. Spending on them rose sharply in 2025; the figures are on our AI companion statistics page.
Free tiers: a sample, not the product
A free tier lets you see whether you like an app's writing before you pay, but the limits are built to make you upgrade. SecretDesires' own plan screen lists a daily message limit and a daily image limit for Free and keeps its premium chat and image engines for paying users; unlimited messaging starts with Pro at $7.99. Candy.ai's free plan ends after 5 messages in total, while Nomi's allows 50 messages a day with no time limit. JOI's terms describe a free Basic account with limited access that the company can withdraw at its discretion. Subscription tiers: what the higher price buys
The step from the entry plan to the top plan usually buys one of three things, and SecretDesires shows all three on one screen:
- Better chat engines: Pro gets "Advanced & Pro" engines, Ultra "Advanced & Ultra" engines, and Max adds "Max" engines plus experimental engine access.
- A bigger monthly credit allowance: 100, 200 or 300 Hearts.
- Media features: Pro already includes image and video generation and voice features; the July 2026 plan screen listed voice cloning on Ultra.
Before paying for a higher tier, check whether the extra money buys something you will use every week.
Tokens and credits: where the real cost hides
Tokens (also called credits, gems, Hearts, neurons, dreamcoins or charms) are an in-app currency for single actions such as an image, a video, a voice message or a call minute. Most subscriptions include a monthly batch, and you top up when it runs out. Some of the apps above publish what each action costs on a page we could check, and where they also publish what the tokens cost, the price can be turned into money:
- Sweetdream.ai lists 8 tokens per image, 80 per video, 3 to listen to a voice message and 2 per minute of an in-app live call plus 1 to start (20 per minute plus 10 to start for a call to your own phone number). At its smallest pack (€9.99 for 400 tokens, about 2.5 cents a token) an image costs about €0.20, a video about €2, a 10-minute in-app call (21 tokens) about €0.52 and a 10-minute call to your phone (210 tokens) about €5.24. The 400 tokens included with Premium each month cover 50 images or 5 videos. The pack prices were shown as discounts, so they may change.
- Nomi.ai charges credits once a paid plan's daily allowance is used up: 1 per selfie or art request, 6 per standard video and 10 per HD video. At the smallest App Store pack (40 credits for $4.99) that is about $0.12 per selfie and $0.75 per standard video. Nomi does not publish the daily allowance itself.
- OurDream.ai's help center lists 50 dreamcoins per call minute, 10 per 2 standard images and 100 per 5 seconds of standard video, so the 1,000 coins included each month cover about 200 standard images, 20 call minutes or 50 seconds of video. Top-up prices are not public, so we cannot convert coins to dollars.
- JOI.com's terms (last updated June 4, 2026) say one romantic message costs 4 neurons to read, a photo up to 120 and a video up to 1,900 neurons. We found no public page with the price of a neuron, so we cannot convert that to dollars.
The other allowances (100 tokens a month on Candy.ai, 300 on Camsoda AI, 100 to 300 Hearts on SecretDesires, 100 coins a week on Kupid.ai Pro) cannot be compared, because those apps do not publish what an image or a call minute costs. A bigger number is not a bigger allowance until you know what one action costs.
Monthly, annual or lifetime: the math and the catch
The biggest discounts are on prepaid plans. Over a year, at the prices in the table:
- Candy.ai: $155.88 on monthly billing ($12.99 × 12) vs. $47.88 on the annual plan.
- Nomi.ai (App Store): $191.88 on monthly billing ($15.99 × 12) vs. $99.99 per year.
- OurDream.ai: $239.88 on monthly billing ($19.99 × 12) vs. $119.88 per year.
- Camsoda AI: $9.99 for the first month, then $19.95 a month under its terms ($229.44 over 12 months), vs. $29.88 for 12 months at $2.49 (the terms do not say what the 12-month plan renews at).
- Kupid.ai Lifetime: €777 once equals about 4.3 years of Pro on the yearly plan (€179 a year), or about 60 weeks of Pro at €12.99 a week.
The catch is that you pay upfront for a product that may change or close:
- Unused time is rarely refunded. Nomi's refund policy rules out refunds for unused time, partial months and downgrades; Candy.ai refunds only within 24 hours; Replika's sales are final (details in the next section).
- Apps shut down. Soulmate closed on September 30, 2023, with about a week's notice (see our timeline), and ThotChat.ai shut down permanently on December 31, 2025.
- The checkout steers you. Camsoda AI's checkout shows a "Limited time offer: 70% off" banner and the 12-month plan preselected, and the screen does not show what the plan renews at. Its terms say the one-month plan renews at $19.95 a month and do not state the 3- and 12-month renewal prices. Check the renewal price on the confirmation step or receipt before you pay.
Our take: pay monthly for the first month. Switch to an annual plan only if you are still using the app after that month, and skip lifetime deals unless you would happily pay that sum for a few years of use.
Cancel and refund rules
These come from each vendor's own terms or policies, checked in October 2026.

Before you pay: a short checklist
- Check the currency and region. JOI's terms say its prices "may vary based on region"; Sweetdream's pages showed euros when we checked, and Candy.ai shows euros in Europe. Your price can differ from the table.
- Find the renewal price. Discounted first terms and preselected annual plans make the first charge look small; know what you pay from month two or year two.
- Do the token math. Price of a pack divided by tokens, times the tokens per action you will use most.
- Set a cancel reminder. Candy.ai and Nomi renew automatically, and refunds after renewal are rare.
- Look at the bank statement line. JOI's terms say charges appear as "joi.com"; Sweetdream's plan page promises "No adult transaction in your bank statement".
- Price does not buy privacy. In our privacy scorecard (policies reviewed September 19, 2026), Candy.ai and Replika graded B, Sweetdream.ai graded D, and Nomi, Kupid.ai, SecretDesires, JOI, OurDream and Character.AI graded C.
Which plan fits you
- Occasional chat: stay on a free tier and accept the daily limits.
- Daily text chat: the cheapest monthly plan that lists unlimited messaging is SecretDesires Pro at $7.99. Candy.ai, Camsoda AI and OurDream.ai also list unlimited messaging on their paid plans, and on prepaid terms Camsoda AI (12 months at $2.49/mo) and Candy.ai (about $3.99/mo billed yearly) cost less per month; check what they renew at.
- Lots of images, video or calls: choose by included allowance and per-action price, not by the plan price. Sweetdream.ai and OurDream.ai publish both.
